Inspired by the powerful presence of Mariachi Hijas de Jalisco featuring Ana Bertha Castellanos, this Handmade Catrina Mariachi captures the elegance, strength, and musical pride of Mexico’s mariachi tradition. Dressed in a classic charra-style outfit with graceful calavera features, she stands ready to sing with the same passion heard in the voices of Mexico’s great mariachi performers.
Each figurine is handcrafted using traditional papier-mâché techniques, where layers of moistened paper are carefully shaped and bonded with paste over a form. As the layers dry, they harden into a durable sculpture that artisans then paint and decorate by hand. The result is a lightweight yet expressive work of Mexican folk art, rich in character and detail.
From her wide mariachi sombrero to the vivid red bow and sash, every brushstroke reflects the care and creativity of the artisan who brought her to life.
A proud serenade in papel maché, honoring the spirit of mariachi women
