"Santa Claus Llegó a la Ciudad" is the Spanish-language adaptation of the American Christmas classic "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town," originally written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie in 1934. The English original was first performed on Eddie Cantor's radio show in November 1934, selling 500,000 copies of sheet music within 24 hours. The Spanish lyrics were adapted by Juan Carlos Calderón. Luis Miguel recorded the definitive Spanish version for his 2006 Christmas album "Navidades," which peaked at #26 on the Billboard Latin Pop Songs chart. The song has since been covered by Banda MS, Sebastián Yatra (certified RIAA Gold), and many other Latin artists. It has been recorded by over 200 artists worldwide in the original English, including Bruce Springsteen, the Jackson 5, Mariah Carey, and Michael Bublé.

The song is a playful warning to children: Santa sees everything, writes it all down, and follows your steps wherever you are. The Spanish version amplifies the all-seeing nature — "él todo lo apunta, él todo lo ve" (he notes everything, he sees everything). Rather than a threat, it's meant as a joyful motivator for good behavior during the Christmas season. The repeated refrain "don't try to run" gives the Spanish version a slightly more dramatic, almost cinematic urgency compared to the English original's gentler "you better watch out."
