Noche De Paz
Born in an Austrian village with a broken organ in 1818, Noche de Paz found its truest home under Mexican December skies. When mariachi plays it softly, even the trumpets remember how to be still.
About the Song
"Noche De Paz" is the Spanish adaptation of "Stille Nacht" (Silent Night), one of the most beloved Christmas carols in history. The original was written as a poem by Austrian priest Joseph Mohr in 1816 and set to music by his friend Franz Xaver Gruber in 1818. It was first performed on Christmas Eve 1818 at St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria, accompanied by guitar because the church organ had broken down. The Spanish translation was made by Federico Fliedner (verse 1) in the 19th century; the translator of verses 2 and 3 is anonymous. The song has been translated into over 300 languages, making it the most translated song in history. In 2011, UNESCO designated the original "Silent Night" chapel site in Oberndorf as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. The carol became a symbol of peace during the famous WWI Christmas Truce of 1914, when soldiers on both sides sang it simultaneously across the trenches.
Meaning of the Song
The Spanish version reframes "Silent Night" from a scene of holy stillness to a "night of peace, night of love" — emphasizing tenderness over solemnity. Where the English version says "all is calm, all is bright," the Spanish says "todo duerme en derredor" (everything sleeps all around), creating a more intimate, lullaby-like atmosphere. The stars "spread their light" to announce the baby Jesus, and the recurring refrain — "shines the star of peace, shines the star of love" — pairs the two great Christmas promises into a single image. It is a meditation on the sacred quiet that descends when the world pauses to witness something divine.

Lyrics / Letra
Noche de paz, noche de amor
Todo duerme en derredor
Entre los astros que esparcen su luz
Brilla anunciando al niñito Jesús
Brilla la estrella de paz
Brilla la estrella de paz
Noche de paz, noche de amor
Jesús nace en un portal
Llene la tierra la paz del Señor
Llene las almas la gracia de Dios
Porque nació el redentor
Porque nació el redentor
Noche de paz, noche de amor
Todo cante derredor
Clara se escucha la voz celestial
Llamando al hombre al pobre portal
Dios nos ofrece su amor
Dios nos ofrece su amor
Todo duerme en derredor
Entre los astros que esparcen su luz
Brilla anunciando al niñito Jesús
Brilla la estrella de paz
Brilla la estrella de paz
Noche de paz, noche de amor
Jesús nace en un portal
Llene la tierra la paz del Señor
Llene las almas la gracia de Dios
Porque nació el redentor
Porque nació el redentor
Noche de paz, noche de amor
Todo cante derredor
Clara se escucha la voz celestial
Llamando al hombre al pobre portal
Dios nos ofrece su amor
Dios nos ofrece su amor

Silent night, night of love
Everything sleeps all around
Among the stars that scatter their light
Shines the announcement of the child Jesus
The star of peace shines bright

Jesus is born in a manger
May the peace of the Lord fill the earth
May the grace of God fill all souls
For the Redeemer was born
For the Redeemer was bornSilent night, night of love
Let all sing all around
The celestial voice is heard clearly
Calling man to the humble manger
God offers us his love
God offers us his love
