About the Song
Mexican Hat Dance — properly known as El Jarabe Tapatío — is Mexico's national dance and one of the country's most internationally recognized cultural symbols. The dance originated in Guadalajara in the 19th century and was declared Mexico's national dance in 1924 when Anna Pavlova, the Russian ballerina, performed it at the Teatro Degollado.
